English Learners are a diverse group of students, with a vast range of language, academic, and social-emotional needs. In this session, attendees will acquire a foundational grasp of the terminology and acronyms relevant to English Learners. This workshop aims to equip instructional leaders with an understanding of the stages of second language acquisition and effective strategies for English language proficiency within Sheltered English Immersion programs. The speaker will provide a thoughtfully curated list of resources, facilitating an equitable approach when guiding English Learners towards success.
Participants will learn the terminology and acronyms relevant to multilingual learners, become familiar with the stages of language acquisition and levels of English proficiency, and learn language development best practices in order to facilitate the growth and development of teachers of ELs.
